Freshly baked happiness
Our Story
Chip’s Sourdough started with a rescued tortoise, a damaged shell, and the idea that something imperfect can still be pretty special. Chip is our rescued Sulcata tortoise. Before he became part of our family, he was attacked and left with permanent damage to his shell. His shell may never look like that of a typical tortoise, but that’s part of what makes Chip, Chip. When we brought him home, we needed a name that fit. We thought of Chip, the little teacup from Beauty and the Beast, the one with the chip along his rim. It felt perfect. Our Chip had his own “chip,” too, and just like his namesake, it became part of his character rather than something that defined what he was capable of becoming. Over time, Chip grew healthy, strong, and very loved. When we decided to turn our passion for baking sourdough into a small home bakery, we wanted the name to mean something more than just bread. So, naturally, we named it after Chip. Chip’s Sourdough is a reminder of the things we value: care, patience, resilience, and giving something the time it needs to become its best. In many ways, that’s also what we love about sourdough. There are no shortcuts. Every loaf starts simply, develops slowly, and comes out with its own unique character. Today, Chip is more than our namesake, he’s part of our family and the heart behind our little bakery. When you buy a loaf from Chip’s Sourdough, you’re supporting a small Houston home bakery built around family, community, and a very special tortoise with a beautifully imperfect shell. From our home to yours, thank you for being part of Chip’s story.
